Moon Water: What is It and How to Use It

Many people use moon water for rituals, manifestation, healing, cleaning, and spiritual growth. Whether you’re looking to connect more deeply with the natural cycles of the moon or add a powerful tool to your wellness practice, moon water can be a simple yet effective way to align with lunar energy.

What is Moon Water?

Moon water is infused with the energy of the moon making it a potent tool for cleansing, intention-setting, and healing. The phases of the moon each bring a unique energy that can be captured in the water. While full moon water is the most common, you can make moon water during any phase of the lunar cycle, depending on the type of energy you want to work with.

  • New Moon: setting intentions, new beginnings, and growth

  • Waxing Moon: manifestation, building energy, and attracting abundance

  • Full Moon: amplifies energy, cleansing, clarity, and releasing what no longer serves you

  • Waning Moon: releasing what no longer serves you, banishing negativity, and introspection

How to Make Moon Water

Making moon water is a simple process that can be customized to you spiritual or personal needs. Here’s how you can create your own:

Supplies:

  • A clear, glass jar or bottle

  • Fresh, clean water

  • **Optional: crystals, herbs, or essential oils (EOs)

Steps:

  1. Decide which phase of the moon you’d like to work.

  2. **Fill your jar/bottle with water and any optional additives. You may want to label the container with the intention, moon phase, and additives if you plan to store it for later use.

  3. As you prepare your moon water, think about your intention for using it.

  4. Place the jar outside to catch the moonlight overnight. If you don’t have an outdoor space to leave it, you can also place it on a window sill.

  5. In the morning, retrieve your moon water. Store it in a cool, dark place if you’re not using it immediately.

**If you plan to ingest your moon water, please carefully research which additives you choose. Some crystals, such as selenite, are water-soluble. Some herbs and many EOs are not safe to consume. If you’d like to ingest your water, you can place the “unsafe” crystals, herbs, or EOs around the container.

Ways to Use Moon Water

Once you’ve made your moon water, you can incorporate it in to your daily life and spiritual practices in a variety of ways:

  • Drinking/Cooking: You can use your moon water to make coffee, tea, pasta, rice, etc. The options are endless here. Just be sure you didn’t put any crystals, herbs, or EOs in the water that would be unsafe to ingest.

  • Bathing: Add your moon water to your bath to promote emotional and physical healing.

  • Cleansing your Space: Use your moon water to make a cleaning spray, and use it to clean your home. This is a great 2-in-1 cleansing spray for physical and energetic cleansing.

  • Water your Plants: Whether it’s your houseplants or your garden, moon water can give them an extra boost!

  • Manifestation and Spell Work: You can sprinkle it on your altar, anoint tools, or use it in other magickal workings.

  • Skincare/Beauty Routines: You can use your moon water to wash your face or make homemade beauty products, such as rose water.
