Top 3 Fall Wellness Tips

Updated: Sep 19

We only have a few weeks of sweet summertime left before we turn the wheel to a new season. While many feel that Autumn is the superior season, others may dread this time known as “sick season.” It doesn’t have to be that way though! Here’s my top 3 Fall wellness tips:

1 - Get outside!

If you haven’t learned by now, spending time outside will always be a wellness tip. And for a few different reasons! There are three important aspects of being outside that supports our immune systems: sunlight, grounding, and germs.

Our bodies need sunlight, specifically UVB rays, to produce vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in our immune function, aids in calcium absorption, controls inflammation, balances blood sugar, and is needed for muscle movement! If you can’t get enough sunlight for vitamin D production, I highly recommend increasing your vitamin D-rich foods and consider adding a supplement, such as this vitamin D cream.

We also need to connect with the Earth itself. Our bodies are, believe it or not, electric! The Earth’s surface holds a negative charge, and when we connect our bodies, a positive charge, we can neutralize the free radicals that our body produces. (Too many free radicals can damage our bodies and cause inflammation!)

Now I know what you’re thinking, exposing ourselves to germs is bad! …No! Exposing ourselves to germs, helps train our immune system and strengthen it. (Look into germ theory vs terrain theory.) But being outside isn’t just about “germs” as much as it is about exposing ourselves to the good bacteria that helps build our skin’s and gut’s microbiome. Those microbiomes are what aids our immune system in fighting the harmful bacteria to keep us healthy!

2 - Stay active!

Exercising regularly has many benefits, including lowering stress and supporting our lymphatic system—both of which improve our immune system!

Stress causes the release of a hormone called cortisol. Chronically high cortisol has a myriad of negative side effects, and among them includes weakening our immune system, making us more susceptible to illness.

Our lymphatic system is a highway for cleaning pathogens out of our bloodstream and sending lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, in to attack and protect us from harmful viruses and bacteria!

3 - Restock illness staples!

Unfortunately, we can still get sick even if we support our bodies in every way they need. It’s just part of life so it’s best to be armed and prepared.

Late summer is the best time to take inventory on what you have and what you need. I highly recommend having your fire cider brewed, mullein dried, and colloidal silver stocked. Teas, broths, soups, vitamins. It’s so much easier to tackle a sick household when you already have everything you may need.
